2- Using a 3/16" bit, drill a hole through the spout.
3- Cap the hole.
4- Once the season is over, remove the spout.
This ECO spout is using a new insertion method: first insert spout and then use a 3/16" bit to drill the hole. This spout is reusable year after year.
ECO spout on left vs other method.
When the tapping season is over, remove the press fit spout. The outside wound will totally close within the first season to reduce diseases, mold, infection and insects problems.
The new tapping method causes 80% less damage compare to a 5/16" traditional tapping. The tree shows growth on top of the wound within the first year.
Heels up to 4 time faster with 80% less damage, the maple tree will live and produce tree sap for additional 25 to 50 years.
Since the maple trees would live longer, it is possible to tap more mature trees per land size.
